Ariel Mortman is an American-born Israeli actor, best known for her performance as Hayley Woods in the Netflix series Greenhouse Academy. Ariel was born in New York but later moved to Tel Aviv. She was trained in acting there and also served in the Israeli military. Though she was a known face on Israeli TV, she appeared in her breakthrough American project, Greenhouse Academy, in 2017. She reprised her role in its three subsequent seasons. Ariel is also popular on social media and has endorsed several top brands.

Early Life & Family

Ariel Mortman was born on February 6, 1994, in New York CityNew York, United States of America, to Steve Mortman and Hila Arnon. She grew up with a brother, Daniel “Volde” Mortman, and a sister, Edan Mortman.

She is of Israeli (Middle Eastern) descent. She moved to Tel Aviv later, though she is currently based in Los Angeles, California.


Ariel Mortman initially attended sessions at the Cameri and Nissan Nativ acting studios in Tel Aviv, Israel. She then briefly served the Israeli defense forces, as a marine.

She stepped into full-time acting in 2014, with the Disney Israel Hebrew-language TV show Kotchav Hatzafon (“North Star”). The teen series, which continued for two seasons, from 2014 to 2016, featured her as Maya.

She was also seen as Tomer in the Israeli short film Keep it Cool (2014). She then appeared as Emma in the Israeli 3D short film Dreaming to Fly (2015).

She then bagged a breakthrough project when she was cast in the lead role of Hayley Woods in the Netflix series Greenhouse Academy in 2017. The series became a huge hit and was renewed for four seasons. It stars Finn Roberts, Chris O’Neal, and Dallas Hart, apart from Ariel.

Its fourth season was released in March 2020. The “tween” drama is based on the Israeli TV series The Greenhouse (Ha-Hamama), which was telecast on Nickelodeon Israel.

In 2020, she appeared as Grace in the American short film Ghosted, directed by Morgan Gruer. Ariel was one of the co-producers of the film. She was also featured in the music video of her Greenhouse Academy co-star Dallas Hart’s song Just for the Weekend, in 2018.

Ariel’s audition tape for Greenhouse Academy was filmed on her iPhone in a hostel room, while she was on a backpacking trip in Japan. She was sure that she would not get the role, but the makers called her the following day.

Ariel found out that she had bagged the role of Hayley when she and her co-stars entered a room with 12 Netflix executives sitting inside. After the executives began clapping, she and her co-stars turned around to see a huge sign that read “Welcome to the Greenhouse Academy!”

According to Ariel, the toughest scenes to film for Greenhouse Academy were those that involved drowning. She realized that it was extremely difficult to fake drowning. By the end of the shoot, she had spent over 8 hours in the cold water.
